President’s Message

Welcome to the Junior League of Charlottesville (JLC)!
As we enter our 93rd year of empowering women in Charlottesville and beyond, it is an honor and a privilege to serve as President of the Junior League of Charlottesville (JLC). Our League has long been a driving force for positive change, and as we reflect on our remarkable history, we are energized by the many milestones we’ve reached together.
Founded in 1932 as the University League, our roots were planted by a group of visionary women determined to make a difference. Their legacy continues today, fueling our passion for service, mentorship, and training. Since joining the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) in 1981, we’ve continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of our community, all while remaining steadfast in our commitment to our Mission and Values.
As we embark on the 2025–26 League year, we remain deeply committed to our Mission: The League is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. Through our Mission and commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, we strive to inspire lasting change, advancing the leadership of women and ensuring a positive impact on our local communities.
- Mentorship: Since 2014, our Members have partnered with the Boys & Girls Club to mentor girls ages 9–11, fostering confidence, life skills, and leadership through hands-on activities like cooking workshops and guided discussions.
- Service: From helping launch the Senior Center and a children’s museum at UVA to today’s collaborative projects, JLC Members use their time and talents to identify community needs and create lasting solutions.
- Training: We equip our Members with tools to lead—offering workshops, seminars, and real-world leadership opportunities that prepare them to serve both within the League and throughout the greater Charlottesville community.
Looking ahead, we are excited for our second annual Touch-A-Truck on October 19, 2025—an event that will allow children to explore and interact with a wide range of vehicles, meet the people who drive them, and learn about the essential roles they play in our community. This event is another example of how, together, we can create meaningful connections and celebrate the strength of community partnerships.
As we look to the future, we are filled with anticipation of what we can accomplish in the years to come. Our legacy of impact is a testament to the passion, dedication, and collaboration of the women who have come before us—and to the incredible support of our partners, sponsors, and Members.
I invite you to join us in continuing this powerful work and to be part of an organization that has, for over nine decades, helped women grow into leaders.
